Our Identity

The history of Montalcino is rooted in a distant past, with evidence of Etruscan communities that had already established a fortified settlement in the area. From the Middle Ages onward, Montalcino became an important centre, contested for centuries between Florence and Siena and shaped by wars and sieges.

Following the model of Siena, in the 13th century the town was divided into terzieri, later becoming districts, each identified by its own coat of arms: a drop-shaped shield inspired by that of the city itself. Even today, these emblems can still be seen throughout Montalcino, marking the neighbourhoods to which they belong.

That same drop shape, symbolising both strength and grace, inspires the estate’s logo. Within it, the sky, a flower and the ancient walls all evoke this radiant and flourishing land and its deep-rooted heritage.

The visual identity of both Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino was developed from the drawings of Anita Sardelli, rich in illustrations, graphic motifs and colour studies.

The desire to capture the estate and its vineyards through her lines and colours; the richness and complexity expressed through refined graphic details; and Anita Sardelli’s signature, lending a distinctive personality: these are the elements that gave shape to the Brunello di Montalcino label. The Rosso di Montalcino label is its monochromatic and vibrant interpretation, likewise, inspired by Anita’s exploration of colour.
